As for the City, it will turn off all non-essential lights in its facilities and join other cities around the world, such as Sydney, Chicago, Tel Aviv, Copenhagen, Melbourne and Toronto, which will do the same on March 29, in order to increase awareness about one of the biggest threats ever encountered by our planet: global warming.
Last year, 2.2 million people and 2,100 businesses in Sydney turned off their lights during one hour, which resulted in reducing the consumption of energy of the city by 10.2% during this hour, the equivalent of removing 48,000 cars from the roads during that period.
