A spokesperson for the parents’ group raised numerous faults and defects that could harm young children who play in the park; the spokesperson also said that several petitions sent by the parents in the last few months have not been addressed.
Among the items being questioned are the wooden play station modules which are ruined and hence dangerous, an accumulation of broken glass in the grounds, the deteriorated chalet, water fountains that don’t work and bushes that have never been trimmed and maintained.” Another resident asked that new play station modules be installed.
Mayor Manon Barbe expressed surprise that the parents’ petitions were not taken care of. She committed to look into it and would personally communicate with the spokesperson as to developments.
She did admit that the park’s chalet is indeed closed because of a plumbing problem and the presence of mildew. As for buying new play module stations, the Mayor said that this type of purchase would depend on the availability of funds. “We have 40 parks in LaSalle and these new modules are expensive.”
The day after the Council meeting, one of the parents told us that following a request by Councilor Michael Vadacchino, city employees went to the park to clean the trees and bushes.
