LCCHS wins Martin Luther King Legacy Award

Phil Clavel, Principal of LaSalle Community Comprehensive High School (LCCHS), accepted the prestigious Martin Luther King Legacy Award at Montreal’s City Hall on January 18th. “To receive the Martin Luther King Legacy Award from the City of Montreal is not something any of us could have imagined,” Clavel said in his acceptance speech.

Being the only school nominated out of a total of 60 nominees, LCCHS was one of five that was presented with the distinguished award. The school was chosen for the award because of the extensive community work and contributions made by administrators, teachers and students at LCCHS.

The school has had a Food Drive for over 20 years. Thousands of dollars are raised, over 65 families are given food baskets and five food banks are supplied with amounts of food. Students travel to elementary schools to help with breakfast programs each morning. Students and staff are working weekends and week nights to raise funds to help build schools in Ecuador this spring. Money was raised to help victims of the earthquake in Italy and with the earthquake in Haiti. “LCCHS is all about our community working together. Over twenty percent of our staff went to school at LCCHS and have returned to give something back to the students, said Clavel.
