He’s got the speed of a cougar in the wild and maybe faster than the “Rocket” from the blue line in. He’s LaSalle’s Treyvon Grant, a Sec 3 student at Beurling Academy, and has athletic genes in his family, being the nephew of Hall of Fame boxers Howard and world class champ Otis Grant, and we recently spoke to him at his residence.
In BA’s 7-year history, Treyvon has been the most prolific male athlete and still has 2 years left. In his first two years, he was named the Cycle 1 male athlete of the year having dominated the scholastic athletic scene. In Sec 1, he led the 3-man bantam track team to the GMAA banner and gold with 5 medals including 2 gold medals, and then poured it on in Sec 2 and helped to lead the midget basketball team to the semis and then singlehandedly having won second place honors in the indoor meet flying solo by racking up 5 gold medals, one silver, and one bronze and then in the outdoor meet, led the bantam track team to another silver finish with 1 gold and 3 bronze medals.
This year, he was part of the championship touch football team, and this time in the recent GMAA indoor meet, led the midget team to second place with 1 gold, one silver and two bronze medals, and then the following week led the midget basketball team to the Division 3 finals, having scored 25 points, but sadly lost 51-49 to Hebrew Academy in overtime.
Many of us have been wondering and many of his coaches have been thinking London Olympics 2012. So, needless to say, we inquired, and the word is out.Treyvon continues, “a lot of people have been talking to me about it, last year I was the fastest in Quebec in the 100-metre dash, so they wanted me to go to the Summer Olympics for Canada (Canada Games).” His time was 11.7 seconds, so two more seconds off and he’s into world numbers.
