After eliminating the Voyageurs of Saguenay in four matches during the first round, the Cardinals had to play against the Orioles of Montreal, the team who beat the Cards during last season’s finals.
The Orioles began the series in force by four hits in a 4-1 win during the opening match in LaSalle. The Cardinals came back in full force during the second match in Montreal with a 4-2 win. Playing before their fans, they suffered a blow in the third game, dropping the flag with a 5-0 score.
During match # 4 held in Montreal, the Cards suffered a third blow ending with a 3-2 score. In the elimination match, they bounced back during the fifth match, grabbing a 2-1 victory.
The Cardinals took matters in their own hands with their offensive during the sixth match, crushing the Orioles in Montreal with a 11-1 score. Michael Page, Maxime Brochu and Olivier Lalonde gained 2 points each. Dominick Carrier fought a complete match, ceding to one point and six strikes.
Encouraged by their supporters last Saturday, the Cardinals completely dominated their opponents and grabbed the honors. A 14-5 win does not leave any doubt. Marco Masciotra stole the limelight with three strikes, scoring four points. Michael Page and Maxime Brochu each scored two points.
As of press time, the final series should start Tuesday night at the Éloi-Viau Stadium in Riverside Park and continue in Trois-Rivières on Wednesday, September 30.
