There is no greater feeling than being inspired to write something that was sparked by a true life moment! As a personal trainer and athlete, weight training is essential to my lifestyle and my sport. The average woman will never come close to lifting what I lift so it is only natural that women with questions about working out often approach me in the gym. While most questions are typical and I don’t think twice about them after, I am occasionally asked a question that leaves a mark, leaves me pondering and leaves me saying to myself “is she for real?”
There seems to be a genuine concern for diminished breast size as a result of fat loss or exercise! This fear of dropping a cup size actually limits women’s level of activity and type of training. If you are wondering whether exercise or weight loss will actually reduce the size of your boobs, wonder no more…generally, the answer is yes. Now hold on ladies, before you throw your running shoes in the garbage and cancel your gym memberships, let’s take a closer look at what really happens to those ever so coveted lumps on the front of your body. Breasts are composed mainly of fat and fibrous tissue…some of you are made to have big breasts, others small breasts. Why? Well, some of you may have big breasts because it was meant to be and genetically that is what your cup size is. If you are one of these people then you may lose some of your breast size from exercise, but it won’t be significant. If you are like me and come from a long line of small breasted women, the odds are the only reason why you have big knockers is because of the excess fat your whole body is carrying…I lost 30 lbs and 2 cup sizes years ago…they never came back.
What strikes me the most is that women are willing to overlook the benefits of exercise to keep those precious breasts. Let me repeat this just so you get it right: you will only lose significant breast mass if it simply wasn’t mean to be. If anything, women with small breasts who have a healthy weight and average body fat percentage can make their breasts look slightly bigger by enlarging the pectoral muscles underneath the breast! If you are overweight and want to change your body, you can’t control what will happen to your breasts…and is it worth being unhappy about all your other body parts just to keep your breasts…well, you choose, but the bottom line is, first and foremost, think of your health. How you look and how that makes you feel should come second, and at the end of the day…just face the music ladies! If they shrink they weren’t meant to be! Take a trip to the lingerie store where you’ll find many a padded bra! The bra industry caters to small breasted women more than ever, and I am sure they have just the bra for you! Happy shopping!
To “B34” or not to “B34…" that IS the question!
