Last chance to catch colourful 'Action Paintings'

The London-born artist uses a cast of recurring characters in her art to explore the human experience. Having moved to Canada as a young child, she earned a BFA from Concordia University before going on to study art at Carleton University in Ottawa. She focused on art from a feminist perspective, and this interest in gender roles is represented in her current show.

The exhibition itself developed in unexpected ways, says Andrée Anne Vien, a coordinator at the Visual Arts Center. “She totally changed the idea of the show; she decided to make this gorgeous frieze on the wall, and she decided to show the sketch drawings. At first, I thought they were preparatory, but she decided to introduce them to the exhibition as is.”

The end result is a lively show that explores the human body in action, and in association with other bodies.
